How it started
Few month ago my mum's car broke down in front of a Shell in Dandenong. Shan, the owner, with one of his staff, pushed the car into service station, sorted her out, and got her on her way. No fuss. Just kindness.
When I came to pick the car up, I got chatting with Shan. He told me what running a busy servo is actually like — the constant stream of cars, the regulars he wanted to greet, the new faces he had to watch, and the steady trickle of drive-offs.
That conversation turned into "maybe we can help" and that turned into Drive Off Shield.
What we built
Shan's problem wasn't catching drive-offs. It was that he didn't have time to think about them at all. We wanted to give him a tool that quietly analysed threats so he could look after his customers. So we built Drive Off Shield to do two things.
- Flags risky vehicles before they pump, so staff can be ready.
- Recognises regulars — people that are trusted so staff can greet them, not watch them.
The same dashboard catches the bad apples and makes the everyday customer experience better. That's the part we're most proud of.
Who we are
Drive Off Shield is built by a small Melbourne team. We're a product of CodeNinja Pty Ltd (ABN 60 160 205 863), an Australian software company specialising in visual AI and cloud platforms.
Built for Australian plates, Australian petrol stations, Australian conditions. Hosted on Microsoft Azure in Sydney — your data stays in Australia.
What we believe
Customer service is the real product. Every minute a staff member spends watching the forecourt is a minute they're not spending behind the counter. We give that minute back.
Network effects belong to everyone. Every drive-off uploaded by any site makes the database stronger for every other site. Even our free tier contributes — that's the point.
